SECTION 4: First-Aid Measures

Inhalation: Move exposed person to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen and consult a physician.

Skin Contact: Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing. Wash with soap and water.

Eye Contact: Flush immediately with copious amounts of clean water for at least 15 minutes holding eyelids open. Seek urgent medical attention.

Ingestion: Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Rinse mouth thoroughly. Do NOT induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical advice.

SECTION 5: Fire-Fighting Measures

Suitable Extinguishing Media: Water spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder, or alcohol-resistant foam.

Hazardous Combustion Products: Oxides of carbon, nitrogen oxides (NOx), and oxides of phosphorus (PxOy).

Protective Equipment: Firefighters must wear full protective chemical gear and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

SECTION 6: Accidental Release Measures

Personal Precautions: Wear suitable protective equipment (gloves, safety goggles, apron). Avoid direct contact.

Environmental Precautions: Prevent entry into drains, sewers, or natural waterways.

Clean-Up Methods: Neutralize spill cautiously with dilute alkali (sodium carbonate/lime), absorb with sand or clay, and place into marked chemical waste containers.

SECTION 7: Handling and Storage

Handling: Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling.

Storage: Store in original tightly sealed HDPE containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse away from direct sunlight, strong alkalis, and oxidizing agents.

SECTION 8: Exposure Controls / Personal Protection

Engineering Controls: Provide mechanical local exhaust ventilation to maintain low airborne concentrations.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

  • Eye/Face Protection: Tightly fitting chemical splash safety goggles and face shield.
  • Skin Protection: Neoprene or nitrile rubber chemical resistant gloves and impervious protective suit.
  • Respiratory Protection: Use suitable respiratory protective equipment if mist or aerosol is generated.

SECTION 9: Physical and Chemical Properties

Appearance: Amber to dark brown liquid | Odor: Slight characteristic odor | pH (1% sol): 2.0 - 4.0 | Density (20°C): 1.20 - 1.30 g/cm³ | Solubility: Completely soluble in water in all proportions.

SECTION 10: Stability and Reactivity

Chemical Stability: Stable under recommended storage and handling conditions.

Incompatible Materials: Strong oxidizing agents, strong bases, and corrosive reactive metals.

Hazardous Decomposition: Thermal decomposition produces oxides of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus.

SECTION 11: Toxicological Information

Acute Toxicity: Oral LD50 (Rat) > 2000 mg/kg; Dermal LD50 (Rabbit) > 2000 mg/kg.

Skin Corrosion/Irritation: Moderate skin irritant on prolonged exposure.

Serious Eye Damage/Irritation: Causes substantial eye irritation.

SECTION 12: Ecological Information

Ecotoxicity: Low acute toxicity to aquatic organisms (Fish LC50 > 100 mg/L). Do not discharge untreated chemical directly into natural aquatic ecosystems.

Persistence and Degradability: Biodegradable over extended exposure in industrial effluent treatment plants.

SECTION 13: Disposal Considerations

Dispose of contents and empty containers in accordance with local, state, national, and international environmental waste disposal regulations.
